Introductory and advanced training program in the field of IT

DATEV eG faced the challenge of meeting the growing demand for skilled software developers while also managing the transition to cloud-based services. A specially designed training program enables internal employees to become software developers within a year, thereby strengthening the company’s long-term development capabilities.

Initial Situation

DATEV eG faced a structural challenge that affects many technology companies: the demand for qualified software developers is constantly increasing, while the labor market can only provide a limited number of additional skilled workers.

At the same time, the company was undergoing technological change. Development was increasingly shifting from traditional on-premise solutions to cloud-based services. This change required not only new technical expertise, but also different approaches to software development and problem solving.

This presented management with a twofold task: on the one hand, development capacity had to be secured. On the other hand, existing employees had to be specifically prepared for new technological requirements.

Without systematic training of internal talent, it would have been difficult to meet this need in the long term.

Client
Datev eG

Industry
Software company and IT service provider

Challenge
Growing demand for developer expertise coupled with a shortage of skilled workers and technological change.

Operational Added Value
Internal development expertise built up and transformation to cloud-based services secured in terms of personnel.

Procedure

As part of the “Becoming a Software Engineer” qualification program, a structured training path was developed for internal employees. The goal was to qualify participants as software developers within one year.

Starting with the third iteration, BREDEX took over significant parts of the program’s implementation, consulting, and support. The program was designed in collaboration with DATEV to be tailored to both the individual participants and the specific requirements of the company.

A central component was the combination of theoretical training with practical content from real development projects. The team of trainers contributed their own experience from software development projects and imparted knowledge that could be directly applied in everyday work.

In terms of content, the program covered key areas of modern software development, including:

  • Front-end development
  • Back-end development
  • Databases
  • Version management
  • Software quality
  • Agile development approaches

This structured qualification ensured that participants not only acquired technical knowledge, but also developed an understanding of modern development processes.

Effect in operation

With its qualification program, DATEV is creating a sustainable basis for building up its own development expertise.

Instead of relying exclusively on the external labor market, the company can systematically develop internal talent into software developers. This stabilizes development capabilities in the long term.

At the same time, the program supports technological change within the company. Employees are specifically prepared for the requirements of modern software development and can actively participate in the further development of systems and services.

This results in a strategic advantage for management:

The ability to build and develop software expertise internally reduces dependence on the labor market and increases long-term capacity to act in an increasingly competitive technology environment.
