Introductory and advanced training program in the field of IT

With the “Becoming a Software Engineer” qualification program, we empower Datev eG employees so that participants can be trained as software developers within a year.

Challenge

Datev eG faced the challenge of overcoming the growing shortage of skilled workers in the IT industry and ensuring its future viability by specifically promoting internal talent. Added to this was the shift from on-premise solutions to cloud-based services, which required not only technical expertise but also a new way of thinking and approaching problem solving.

From the third iteration onwards, BREDEX took over large parts of the implementation, consulting, and support of the program. In close consultation with the customer, we designed the program to be both individualized and tailored to the specific challenges of the company. In this way, we ensure that employees are optimally prepared for this transformation.

We were responsible for training the employees in the areas of frontend with TypeScript & Angular, backend with Java, databases, GIT, software quality, and agile development.

Methods

Our team of trainers combines practical training with content that can be immediately applied in everyday work and brings extensive experience in software development and training. In addition to their work as trainers, they continue to be actively involved in development projects. This means that participants benefit from up-to-date knowledge and practical insights, including anecdotes from our everyday project work.

The training is designed to be location-independent thanks to hybrid learning formats. We tailor all training materials—including scripts, quizzes, and projects—to the individual needs of the participants and the company. Regular feedback helps us to make any necessary adjustments at an early stage.

Thanks to intensive work in small groups, we can provide individual support to participants, promote their strengths, and prepare them specifically for their future areas of responsibility within the company. Our team of trainers accompanies participants throughout the entire program, thus enabling continuous support.

Solution

We rely on a blended learning format that combines monthly face-to-face events with remote training and promotes a skills-oriented, self-directed learning approach. This is supplemented by targeted mentoring and coaching tailored to the individual participants.

We also use artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on the assessment of results. Close communication with our customers ensures that, in addition to the personal goals of the employees, the company’s goals are also successfully achieved.

Agile learning sprints based on the Scrum framework serve as the methodological foundation. This approach enables participants to learn and work in an agile environment from the very beginning, which optimally prepares them for their future professional practice.

We use Microsoft Teams as a central tool that is not only used for video calls. Rather, it serves as a comprehensive learning management system (LMS) that supports communication, targeted coaching of participants, and their project work, among other things.

Our team of trainers not only acts as knowledge mediators, but also as advisors, offering continuous customer-oriented communication on an equal footing. This holistic approach ensures sustainable knowledge transfer and successful implementation of the program.
