Trainee Customer Project at BREDEX

Practical Learning through Creative Inspiration

At BREDEX, we focus on training approaches that optimally prepare our trainees for their future careers. An excellent example of this is our trainee project, in which trainees use interactive simulation to recreate the challenges of a real customer project. In this case, seven trainees—six software developers and one UX/UI designer—worked for the fictional “Fitness und Wellness Dessau GmbH”. They were supported by three experienced developers who took on the roles of customer, product owner, and Scrum Master.

1. Creative Challenge: Corporate Design Inspired by the Bauhaus

One outstanding feature of the project was the creative freedom given to our trainees. The designer in the group developed the idea of basing the corporate design (CD) on Dessau’s rich heritage, particularly the Bauhaus style. Intensive research into the impressive history of the Bauhaus in Dessau resulted in a modern design that captivates with its clean lines and minimalist style.
As part of her work, the designer created a comprehensive corporate design that incorporated fonts, colors, and shapes and took the city’s unique history into account. This creative approach not only strengthened team dynamics, but also allowed the trainees to contribute their individual talents to the process.

2. Technical Implementation: A Comprehensive System for the Fitness Studio

During the project, the trainees developed a user-friendly website for the gym. This application not only gives members access to information about sports activities and swimming times, but also allows them to easily register and book courses. The software developers worked together on all aspects of development, including member registration and management. They also implemented a system for storing member data and managing course bookings and access rights for different user groups, such as gym employees and members.

3. Gaining Experience and Skills

Sven, who took on the role of the customer, emphasized: “The aim of the trainee project was to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and offer trainees realistic work experience in a customer project.” A key element was the deliberate introduction of conflicting requirements. This challenge sharpened the trainees’ problem-solving skills and made them aware of the importance of clear communication and precise documentation in project work.

4. Agile Principles in Practice

During the project, the trainees learned how to apply agile methods, particularly Scrum. Regular feedback sessions and internal reviews helped to continuously improve the quality of their work. These valuable experiences will accompany them throughout their future careers.

5. Conclusion: Success through Creativity and Teamwork

In summary, the trainee project not only imparted technical knowledge, but also showed what processes within an interdisciplinary project can look like and how important communication is, both with the customer and with the internal project team. The creative inspiration from the Bauhaus style and the opportunity to experiment technically in a protected learning environment led to a successful and instructive experience.
