Recap: Global Game Jam 2025 at BREDEX – A Weekend Full of Creativity

Eindrücke vom Global Game Jam 2025 bei BREDEX

Last weekend, our BREDEX seminar room was once again transformed into a hub of creativity, innovation, and gaming fun! Global Game Jam 2025 brought together nearly 30 enthusiastic participants who took on the challenge of developing their own game in just 48 hours. This year’s theme was “Bubble.”
From the initial brainstorming to the final playtesting, the atmosphere in the room was electric. Whether programmers, designers, or musicians—everyone worked hand in hand to bring their visions to life. The result was six games that interpreted the theme in very different ways.

The Theme “Bubble” – More than just Soap Bubbles

What can you associate with “bubble”? This question led to a variety of creative approaches. Some teams thought of physical bubbles – fragile structures that needed to be protected or manipulated. Others took the term metaphorically and created worlds in which thought bubbles, protective shells, or even dangerous bubbles served as gameplay elements.
The resulting games showed how diverse and innovative the game jam community is. Here is an overview of the creative results:

Alchemy Space Bubble
In this strategy game, you experiment with different combinations of thoughts while managing your Mars colony of bubble tents.

Charlie’s Bubble Adventure
An action-packed jump ‘n’ shoot game in which you defeat enemies and skillfully overcome obstacles with bubble guns.

Bubblebee
A cute but challenging skill game in which you help a bumblebee escape from a bubble tea. Different types of bubbles offer different jumping mechanics that you have to use cleverly.

Bubble Hell
Fans of bullet hell games got their money’s worth here! As the pilot of a spaceship, you have to fight your way through increasingly difficult waves of enemies, explore space stations, and upgrade your ship.

Droubble – A lone drone’s journey
This game is all about finesse: you control a small drone that guides a fragile bubble through an abandoned industrial facility. But be careful—get too close and the bubble will burst!

First-Person-Bubble-Fight

Your bubble base is under attack from the enemy, while at the same time it is getting smaller and smaller. Outside your base, you will find bubble solution that will enlarge your bubble base again, upgrades to increase your chances of victory, and crystals that you can use to destroy the enemy.

The Game Jam Spirit: Community and Creativity

What makes Global Game Jam so special every year is not only the development of new games, but above all the sense of community. Teams helped each other with ideas and technical know-how, shared their progress, and supported each other with debugging.
It was particularly nice to see how people with different levels of experience—from professionals to first-time jammers—worked together. The jam showed once again that it’s not about perfection, but about the joy of the creative process.

We are proud of what our participants have achieved in just 48 hours and are already looking forward to the next Global Game Jam! Who knows what exciting topic awaits us then?
