The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is back – and we at BREDEX are thrilled to welcome you back to Braunschweig! From January 24 to 26, 2025, we will open our doors to anyone who wants to be part of one of the world’s largest creative events in game development.
Whether you’re a beginner, a pro, or just curious, the GGJ is the perfect place to turn your ideas into reality, meet new people, and have lots of fun.
1. What Is the Global Game Jam?
GGJ is an annual global event in which thousands of people simultaneously develop games in different locations. In just 48 hours, innovative, creative, and often surprisingly funny projects are created—from video games and board games to experimental prototypes.
What makes it special? Every year, there is a common theme that is only revealed at the start of the jam. This theme serves as inspiration, and how you implement it is entirely up to you and your team.
2. GGJ 2025 at BREDEX: Why You Should Participate
During the Global Game Jam at BREDEX, you can look forward to comprehensive support and exchange: Our team is always available to offer advice and assistance—whether you have technical questions or creative challenges that arise over the course of the weekend. You can also expect an open and inclusive community where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re a programmer, artist, musician, storyteller, or a complete newbie, you can contribute your skills and shape the creative process together with others.
3. A Look Back: Highlights from GGJ 2024
At the last Global Game Jams, we once again saw impressive projects and a wealth of creative energy. The themes of the last two years, “Roots” and “Make me laugh,” inspired numerous original and entertaining games:
‘GrowUp’: A game about the seed “Seedy,” who grows into a plant over the course of the game. You collect experience points (XP) and can exchange them for new skills.
“shRooter”: You defend the natural order of the universe by shooting crazy roots that threaten peace.
“Rootvoker”: As a magical tree, you defend yourself against attacking beavers by combining and unleashing individual spells.
“Elf on himself”: Santa needs your help because all the elves are sick. On your only day off, you have to build robots for children and keep them happy to earn points.
What’s special: Many of the participants had never developed a game before! Nevertheless, impressive prototypes were created in just 48 hours.

“I never thought we would be able to create a working game in such a short time. The energy and creativity in the team were incredibly motivating!”
4. Why Should You Participate in GGJ 2025?
