Sustainability Activities at BREDEX

Kleine Erde mit Pflanze, Nachhaltigkeitssymbol.

At BREDEX, we have once again calculated our CO2 emissions for 2023 and had them verified by ClimatePartner, a recognized service provider in this field . Last year, our emissions amounted to 320 tons. Although this represents an increase compared to 2022, per capita consumption per employee has actually decreased, which is an encouraging sign of our ongoing efforts to reduce our emissions. A detailed report on our sustainability activities has been submitted to the German Sustainability Council and can be viewed on the German Sustainability Code website.

A major factor in our emissions is travel and commuting. We have taken numerous measures to reduce this. We promote the use of public transport and bicycles and offer financial incentives for environmentally friendly travel choices. Our decision to travel by train whenever possible and to walk or cycle to work has already led to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

City Cycling: 405.9 kg of CO2 Saved

This year, we at BREDEX participated enthusiastically in City Cycling and would like to share our delight at the results we achieved. Our team collectively covered an impressive 2,445 kilometers by bicycle. Thanks to this outstanding achievement, we were able to save a total of 405.9 kilograms of CO2 and make an active contribution to climate protection. Within the municipality of Braunschweig, we made it to 137th place, putting us in the top third of participating teams. This ranking impressively demonstrates our commitment and determination to integrate sustainable mobility into everyday life.

Heating Consciously

With winter approaching, we are also focusing on conscious heating. On the initiative of the management, the internal sustainability team is supporting a bachelor’s thesis on the topic: How do smart thermostats save heating energy through intelligent regulation with the help of software?

Sponsorship of “Beschte Wald”

After supporting certified climate protection projects for CO2 compensation over the past two years, we are taking regional action this year: We have signed a sponsorship agreement with the Lower Saxony State Forestry Department to support the planting of 1,500 trees. We will plant some of these trees ourselves. Another planting campaign is planned for spring 2025, and we hope that our colleagues will once again participate in large numbers.

Supporting regional reforestation is not officially classified as compensation, which means that we will no longer carry a recognized climate label for 2024. Together with the management, we have decided that our ecological commitment is not aimed at labels, but rather that we want to identify with it. Since our employees also expressed a desire for regional projects, the choice fell on regional reforestation.

Conclusion

Sustainability is a core value at BREDEX, and our sustainability team is passionate about implementing new ideas and projects. We are proud of what we have achieved in recent years and look to the future with confidence. Together, we want to continue working actively toward a sustainable future.
