Trainee Blog: The Calculator Project – A Creative Success Across the Board

Drei Personen präsentieren eine digitale Anwendung vor einer Gruppe.

We are delighted to announce that we are welcoming seven new faces to BREDEX this year. Our new arrivals include four trainees and three dual students who will be supporting us in the exciting fields of IT application development, media design, computer science, and digital technologies.
Our new trainees and dual students recently reached an important milestone: the presentation of their self-programmed calculators. This project marks the completion of the first part of our Java training and gives them the opportunity to apply and present their new knowledge in a practical way.
Our experienced developers will now thoroughly review the projects and provide valuable feedback. These diverse final projects are an integral part of our training program.

Group 1: Michelle, Vincent, and Niklas – The Creative Minds behind the “Rechenwitz”

Michelle, our media design apprentice, will move into UI/UX development after this project and is passionate about sports, reading, and drawing. Vincent, the dual student of computer science, brings an interesting mix of hobbies to the table, including playing guitar, shooting club, and gaming. Niklas, our application development apprentice, loves sports and watching movies in his free time.
The calculator designed by Michele, Vincent, and Niklas is not only functional, but also a real talent for concentration. They encouraged 63 colleagues to record jokes that are played when calculations are successful. In “concentration mode,” the keys change position to keep the user’s attention. Colorful background animations also contribute to this by providing additional stimulation for the brain.

Group 2: Tatjana and Erich – The Visionaries behind the “Cutelator”

Tatiana and Erich have joined forces to develop the “Cutelator” project. Tatiana, who is starting her second year of training as an IT specialist—thanks to her previous studies in philosophy and theater—loves board games, gaming, and reading. Erich, our new dual student for digital technologies, enjoys gaming, cycling, and creative writing in his free time.
A special highlight of “Cutelator” is the unicorn button. This feature allows users to free the character “Sunshine” by solving math problems, who then leaves the computer. The group has recognized that good planning is essential and that the code can also be let go if necessary. This is an important lesson for their future careers in software development.

Group 3: Jakob and Nico – Innovators with the BREDEX Calculator

Nico and Jakob have teamed up for the BREDEX calculator project. Nico, fresh from his voluntary social year in psychiatry, brings new perspectives to the team and likes to spend his free time gaming, playing guitar, and drawing. Jakob is new to Java, but he has already done a lot of programming in his spare time. When he’s not programming, he likes to read or play pen-and-paper games.
The calculator developed by this third group uses the BREDEX corporate design and also integrates physical effects. When the mouse is moved, the calculator wobbles, making the user interface more interactive. The precision of the calculator has been significantly improved, allowing a wide variety of calculations to be solved accurately.

Congratulations and Preview

Many thanks to all trainees and dual students for these creative developments. We are excited to see your next results and look forward to the upcoming projects. In a few weeks, a console-based dungeon crawler will be presented before the trainees are introduced to web development.
Welcome to the team and here’s to a successful future together!
