My Visit to LEARNTEC 2024

Besuch auf der Learntec

This year, I once again had the pleasure of attending LEARNTEC 2024. As Europe’s largest event for digital education in schools, universities, and the workplace, LEARNTEC provides a platform for the latest trends in digital learning, and so I was there on behalf of BREDEX to exchange ideas.

1. How is LEARNTEC Structured?

LEARNTEC is divided into two areas: the trade fair and the congress.
The trade fair offers companies the opportunity to present their latest products and discuss current learning trends. It is a place for exchange, where you can gain new insights and find out about the latest developments. The congress, on the other hand, with its high-caliber speakers from business and science, offers practical knowledge and space for exchange and networking.
Since both areas are of interest to us, I was represented at both and was thus able to gain a deep and broad insight.
For me, this year’s LEARNTEC highlighted trends that are in some cases very closely linked and have developed further from previous years.

2. AI – Who Would Have Thought

One of the most important developments that emerged last year is—who would have thought—artificial intelligence.
AI is already being used in many areas of education, and companies are increasingly focusing on its integration. Whether it’s AI-supported content development, integration into an LMS, or digital learning companions, there are interesting scientific findings that shed exciting light on the use of AI. Studies show that learners are more likely to ask their questions to AI than to a teacher. Such findings show me how our work in the education sector will change and what fundamental questions we should be asking ourselves.
However, AI was not only a topic in these direct application scenarios, but also ran like a common thread through developments in the industries. It also enables an even stronger focus on data and its usability.

3. Data-Driven Continuing Education

With a good database, training opportunities can be organized in a much more strategic and targeted manner, enabling companies to analyze more precisely which skills they already have in-house and which they will need in the future to meet the challenges ahead. In data-driven continuing education, AI is a powerful and efficient tool for linking and analyzing all the data we have in a company in order to draw appropriate conclusions. One sentence in particular has stuck in my mind: “You can’t control what you don’t measure.”
Data-driven continuing education supported by artificial intelligence makes it possible to address the problem of “one size fits all” continuing education. This gives rise to another trend that is not new, but is more advanced, namely adaptive learning.

4. Adaptive Learning Opportunities – What Are They?

Adaptive learning opportunities are learning content and methods that are individually tailored to a person’s continuing education goals and needs. They are therefore highly individualized and adaptable to the individual and can be directly linked to the person’s learning needs. This development makes it possible to create continuing education opportunities for individuals that meet their own needs on the one hand and the needs of the company on the other. The developments at LEARNTEC have shown me that adaptive learning is the future of continuing education.

5. Not a Trend, but Something that Is Here to Stay!

In this text, I have only provided a small insight into what I took away as professional input.
But what I find great about LEARNTEC every year, and what makes this event so valuable and memorable for me, are the people I met during these three days.
Whether on the train on the way to the trade fair, at lunch on the exhibition grounds, in conversations after the talks, at the stands, or when meeting old acquaintances again—every encounter was incredibly warm and enriched me both professionally and personally.
I am still filled with the memories of the past few days and very grateful that I was able to attend again this year!
Many thanks to BREDEX for allowing me to represent them at LEARNTEC this year!
