BREDEX Reduced Its Emissions in 2022

Sustainability has become an important aspect of our time. It is a particularly important concern in IT, as the digital world plays an increasingly significant role in our everyday lives. For this reason, as an IT company, we have set ourselves the goal of focusing on sustainability not only in the area of software development.
We have therefore once again evaluated a large amount of data for the past year 2022 in order to measure our carbon footprint, identify potential savings, and take appropriate measures to operate in an even more climate-friendly manner.

Our Contribution to Sustainability

First, the good news – compared to last year’s initial assessment, our CO2 emissions have fallen by over 40%. The decisive factor in this reduction in CO2 emissions is that our management decided to sign a green electricity contract in 2022. Despite the higher electricity costs involved, the decision was made deliberately in order to achieve our own sustainability goals. The entire BX team is very grateful for this.

At 10%, a large proportion of our emissions are caused by the heat we purchase. On a positive note, our heat consumption has decreased compared to the previous year. Since we purchase district heating from BS Energy and have a certificate for climate-friendly production, we at BREDEX are already doing everything we can to be climate-friendly in this area. In addition, we regularly remind our employees to heat consciously and carefully so that energy is used optimally.

Means of Transport that Protect the Environment

Another significant portion of our emissions, 13%, comes from our vehicle fleet. BREDEX has been pursuing a strategy of gradually switching to electric vehicles for some time now. In addition, we encourage our employees to question their own use of transportation and switch to more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Our business flights rank just behind this, accounting for 10%. With BREDEX Kft. in Hungary, we have a partner location abroad for which long-distance travel is not entirely avoidable. However, we also check the possibility of train connections for every trip in order to keep our CO2 emissions low in this area as well.

Another, smaller portion of our emissions comes from commuting to the office. We can keep these low by offering home office options, using public transportation, and providing company bicycles.

Climate-Friendly Projects to Offset Emissions

We plan to offset our unavoidable emissions again through a climate protection project. We actively involve our employees in the selection of this project by giving them the opportunity to vote on it.
In addition, another joint tree planting campaign is in the planning stage. This does not directly affect the calculation of our emissions offset, but it is important to the management, the sustainability team, and our BX team to contribute to climate protection and forest conservation in the region.
