Java Forum Nord 2023: A Look Back at an Inspiring Conference

The year is progressing rapidly, with one incredible event following another. One such event of particular interest is undoubtedly the Java Forum Nord, which took place again this year in Hanover. This conference proved to be a rich source of insights, lively discussions, and excellent networking opportunities for developers from northern Germany and beyond. Last but not least, our experts from BREDEX were also represented in various roles: as speakers, organizers, and hosts of a workshop as part of Java Forum Nord 4 Kids.

Inspiring Lectures and Speakers

The Java Forum Nord is known for its wide range of topics, and 2023 was no exception. From the latest developments in the Java language itself to exciting trends such as cloud-native Java applications, microservices, and DevOps, there was something for everyone. Participants were able to delve deeper into the topics that interested them most in various talks.

Alex Schladebeck and Tim Winselmann from BREDEX also enriched this diversity of topics with their joint presentation on “Maximum learning through minimum programming: successes, mistakes, and lessons learned.” In their presentation, they used the internal Best Parking project to show how complexity in projects can be reduced and value creation maximized.

Other highlights included keynotes by Sandra Parsick and Christina Hartmann. They spoke about the reasons for the low number of female employees in IT and about building and expanding communities. Halil-Cem Gürsoy’s presentation was also very popular as he shared his experiences with GitOps with the community.

Java Forum Nord 4 Kids: Fun for the Youngest too

To ensure that younger participants at Java Forum Nord didn’t miss out, Java Forum Nord 4 Kids was held again this year. A team from BREDEX was also there with a workshop. Packaged in a short story about the first day at work at the game development studio BeschteGames, the children were introduced to the basics of micro:bit programming. They learned how to use the block-based programming of the microcontroller in the MakeCode environment in a playful way.
Not only did our event team have a lot of fun sharing their knowledge with the children, but the children also participated with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. Working with the micro:bit is one of the easiest ways to introduce children to the world of computer science and coding in a playful way. The individual code parts are easy to connect, interactive, and offer space to engage creatively with coding, making them ideal for beginners.

An Event that Is well Worth Attending

Java Forum Nord 2023 was undoubtedly a highlight for the Java community in northern Germany. The conference not only offered a wealth of information and insights, but also the opportunity to make new connections and deepen existing relationships.
If you missed Java Forum Nord this year, be sure to add it to your list of must-attend events for next year. It’s the perfect place to stay up to date on the latest trends and developments in the Java world while meeting great people.
