Bredex

The Beginning of a New Path

Lego Mindstorms

Sometimes in life, there are moments when your old job no longer fits and you feel that it’s time for a change. That’s exactly what we—Gregor, Julia, Nelli, and Sidney—from a wide range of industries (manufacturing, logistics, marketing, and tourism) recognized. At Bredex, we, a team of four career changers, have been given the wonderful opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the fascinating world of quality assurance. In a six-month program consisting of inspiring workshops, enriching seminars, and practical hands-on projects, we are laying the foundations for our new career path.

A Warm Welcome to the BX Family

Our arrival at BREDEX was more than just a warm welcome—it immediately felt like we belonged to the big BX family. Our new colleagues and buddies supported us from the very beginning and were there to help us with advice and assistance. Instead of the dreaded dry frontal teaching, we were greeted with an innovative learning environment: learning the basics in a self-learning process was supported by interactive Q&A sessions, which gave us the opportunity to engage intensively with the content and benefit from the experience of our seasoned colleagues.

Gaining Practical Experience – Learning with Enjoyment

Not long after we had learned the key terms, concepts, and development models, we were given the opportunity to put our newly acquired knowledge to the test in practice. Together, we developed an exploratory test plan for the BREDEX website, which we then implemented independently. After just a short time, we were able to look back with pride on the results we had achieved and make valuable contributions to the company.

Participation in the “Lego Boot Camp”

We then took part in the Agility and Scrum workshop, where we learned about the value of agile working methods in a fun and practical way. This was followed by the ever-popular “Lego Bootcamp,” which earned us a few envious glances from our more experienced colleagues. Using LEGO® MINDSTORMS®, we built our own programmable cars that could carry out various instructions with the help of different sensors—provided we had done everything right during programming. Fortunately, we received active support and were able to hold exciting competitions at the end of the week. In addition to having fun, we also learned the basic concepts of programming and enthusiastically solved our own tasks.

The Significance of the Theory and Outlook

Amidst all these exciting practical experiences, the necessary theoretical part also found its place in the BREDEX boot camp. In order to be recognized as testers and be able to work in the future, we need the “ISTQB Software Tester Foundation Level” certificate. And that means cramming terms and processes. Thanks to the experience of our trainer, who regularly teaches the course to external participants, the content was taught in a practical and beginner-friendly way. But that’s the dry part over and done with.
As an interim conclusion, we can say that we have grown together as a team. In the joint learning process, we were able to make good progress, acquire a lot of specialist knowledge, and lay our first foundations. Over time, we learned that the field of software testing encompasses much more than just quality control and software testing. We are full of anticipation and excitement about what awaits us in the upcoming workshops and seminars. You will hear from us again—because we will be happy to continue reporting on our exciting experiences!
