This year, “Päckchen für Braunschweig e. V.” (parcels for Braunschweig) is once again collecting Christmas gifts for disadvantaged children. From October 24 to December 9, the non-profit organization accepted Christmas gifts in the form of beautifully wrapped shoeboxes containing small surprises. The association first looks at the gifts and then organizes their distribution to local organizations.
Christmas without gifts?
Not for children from Braunschweig
The association was founded by Julia Swiatkowski, who was 15 at the time and made it her mission to collect Christmas gifts for children from financially disadvantaged families. The association has now been in existence for five years and is actively supported by many volunteers. Youth centers, gyms, drugstores, and many others also participate by serving as collection points for the donation packages. A list of these locations can be found on the association’s website. “Päckchen für Braunschweig” is the largest campaign of its kind in the region. They work with a wide variety of organizations, which in turn fill out lists specifying the age groups/genders for which they need packages. This year, there are approximately 60 lists, which are being worked through one by one. The packages are then put together individually for the respective group, such as kindergarten children, and then picked up by the respective organization and distributed to the children.
Last year, the existing record was broken and 3,920 parcels were donated to local organizations and thus directly to disadvantaged children in Braunschweig.
A wonderful Christmas with BREDEX
At BREDEX, we are keen to support such charitable organizations and bring joy to the children. That is why our company donated €500 to the association and our employees put together their own parcels, which they presented in person together with our managing director Andreas Vogel. The donated funds will be used to pack more parcels so that every child on the list receives a Christmas present.
